Movavi Video Suite > How-To > Apply Professional Filters to Video

Apply any of Movavi's 11 professional filters to manually correct your video quality: Deinterlace, Brightness/Contrast, Blur, Sharpen, Color Balance, Hue/Saturation, Gamma, Chroma Balance, Denoiser, Deblocking - all these tools can help to dramatically improve the quality of your video, without requiring a degree in movie production to use.

Just open your video and double-click on the filter you want to apply. By moving the filter's slider, you can choose the value that provides the best results. To preview and test results, just play the enhanced video in the Preview Area. It's that easy.

Video is blurry

When you shoot fast-moving objects such as birds, animals, cars, athletes, etc., the details can easily become blurred.

To fix this, apply the Sharpen filter. It focuses blurry frames by increasing the contrast of adjacent pixels. Compare video frames before and after enhancement - the improvement is very clear.

video frames before and after enhancement

The wing became darker. The long feathers are more distinct. After enhancement we can clearly see the edges of the feathers and the contrast between the wing and the water.

Before applying the filter, the bird's thin legs had almost no detail. After sharpening the image, we're able to see each individual claw. Even the shadows are sharper.

The head is much clearer. As we can see in the corrected video, the black spot at the top of the head and the beak are darker and more contrasty.

Video has interlace artifacts

Video has interlace artifacts

When shooting fast-moving objects, along with blurriness you can also experience "interlacing". You can easily distinguish an interlaced video from a blurry one by the horizontal stripes that are present across the entire frame.

Why does interlacing happen? When recording, many digital camcorders divide each frame into a set of even and odd horizontal rows. Thanks to interlacing, your camera can compress video without using digital compression methods.

But if you record a fast-moving object, it can appear at one place in the "even" picture, and at another in the "odd" one. As a result, you get a "striped" picture. The Deinterlace filter transforms the mixed frames into normal video frames and removes the interlaced horizontal rows.

Brightness video filter

Video is too dark

Poor lightning or shooting against the sun causes the picture to be too dark. To repair such a video, apply the Brightness/Contrast filter, which allows manual enhancement of highlights and shadows to make them darker or lighter.

Remove noise from video

Video has noise

The Denoiser filter, as its name suggests, detects and removes noise from the picture, greatly increasing the overall quality. Another important use for this filter is to remove noise that may appear after applying video filters; for example, the Brightness filter helps to remove dark areas but may cause some noise. This is why we recommend applying the Denoiser filter at the end of every enhancement.

Hue Saturation filters

Video looks faded

This is a task for the Hue/Saturation filters. The Hue filter adjusts the hue of an entire image. Hue is the color reflected from or transmitted through an object, so changing the filter's value changes colors of entire objects.

The Saturation filter, sometimes called chroma, deals with the strength or purity of a color. Its values range from -100 (duller colors) to +100 (saturation increases).

You can manually set the values for the filters until you reach the desired effect..
