How to Download a YouTube Video
YouTube is probably the most popular video-sharing website in the world. Millions of music clips, short and long movies, TV broadcasts and educational programs are just waiting there for you to enjoy. But it’s not always convenient to watch the videos (especially the large ones) when you’re online, so it’s helpful to have an easy way to download them to local computers. Movavi Screen Capture Studio lets you do just that! With this handy application for ripping videos, copying YouTube content to your hard drive is as easy as ABC – it's the best YouTube video downloader for your PC or Mac!This guide applies to both the Windows and Mac versions of the program. To learn how to save YouTube videos to your computer, simply download the version you need and follow our guide below.
Step 1: Install Screen Capture Studio
After downloading, open the installation file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Step 2: Prepare the Program
Launch YouTube and locate the video you want to rip, then launch our screen taker software. If you use Windows, select Capture screen in the main window, when the program starts. On Mac, the screen recording app will open when you launch the program. Move the program’s capture frame into position over the video in YouTube by holding the yellow button in the center of the frame. Adjust the frame size to fit your chosen video by pulling the edges of the frame or by opening the Select Capture Area list to choose from a range of preset frame sizes; you’ll find special presets for YouTube there, too. If you want to rip the video at full screen, select your monitor's name in the Fullscreen section.
You can also set the duration of the recording. Click on the small clock icon on the right side and set the timer. Our video-grabbing software will automatically stop capturing after the period of time you specify.
Step 3: Rip the Video from YouTube
Click the REC button to start recording. After a five-second countdown, our video copier will begin capturing, so get ready to start playing your YouTube video. Use the Cancel, Pause, or Stop buttons to control the process. You can also use hotkeys: in the Windows version of the program press F9 to pause/resume the capturing or F10 to stop. If you use a Mac, press ⌥ ⌘ 1 and ⌥ ⌘ 2 respectively.
Step 4: Edit and Save the YouTube Video
After the capturing process is complete, you can save the entire video or specify a particular segment you want to keep, cutting those parts you no longer want. Use the triangular markers in the preview window to isolate that segment of the video.
If you need to do more editing, click the Edit button to open the video editor. Using this tool, you can improve your video by applying filters, adding music and special effects, titles, and more. For more information about editing, check out our guides on how to trim and crop your video (the guides apply to the Windows version only).
If your video doesn’t need to be edited, open the Save as list, then click Video and audio and choose the format for saving. Click the Save button when you’re finished; the program will automatically take you to the destination folder with your video.
Congratulations! You’ve just learned how to copy a YouTube video directly to your hard drive. With our video saver, it’s all done in just a few minutes!
