Making a YouTube Channel
So how exactly do you go about creating a YouTube channel? First, open youtube.com and click the Sign In button in the top right corner of the page. If you already have a Google account, enter your Google email and password and click the Sign In button. If you don’t have an account, click the Create an account link, fill out your details, and register your account according to Google’s instructions.
Create Your Channel
After logging in to your account, you’ll be forwarded to the YouTube homepage. Click the My Channel link on the list in the upper left corner of the screen. This will take you to the channel creation form, where you can give your channel a name and provide your information as the owner of the channel (or the details of your company if it’s a corporate account). Click the Create Channel button. That’s it. Now you have a YouTube channel.
Create Multiple Channels
If you want to launch another YouTube channel, with a different name or topic from your first one, you can go to your account icon in the upper right corner. In the drop-down menu, click the cogwheel icon to the right of the Creator Studio button and click the Create a new channel link.
On the next page, name your new channel and select an appropriate category (Product or Brand, etc.). Mark the I agree to the Page Terms box and hit Done. There you go!
Customizing Your Channel
Add Channel Art
Now you can start setting up a visual identity for your channel. Click the Add channel art button and pick a background; you can select one from the gallery or upload an image using your own original content.
The recommended resolution is 2,560 × 1,440 pixels, but you can use different sizes, too. Note that the background will look different depending on the device used for viewing the page. Things like iPad and other tablets will only show an area of 1,546 × 423 pixels in the background center – so make sure there’s enough extra space around the borders.
Edit the Settings
Once you’ve finished your YouTube page design, the next step is to customize your channel settings. Click the cogwheel icon under the channel banner, edit the settings you need, and hit Save.
Add a Channel Description
You can also add a channel description. To do this, just click the Add Channel Description button on your channel page, write whatever you want the viewers of your channel to see, and click Done.
Tips for Making the Most of Your Channel
Now that you’ve created and customized your channel, you’re probably starting to think about how to attract viewers and make watching your channel really worth their time. Though we cannot go into much detail on that in this article, we certainly can give you a few general tips.
Always add descriptions to the videos you upload. This is how YouTube gets what your videos are about and knows whether to show them to other users in the suggestions section. So a good description will help your content get more views and not be lost among all the other videos on the same topic.
Add links to your social media accounts, website, and channel subscription. The links should appear in the description and in the video itself – this is how you increase your chances to build a stronger viewer and subscriber base. Make use of YouTube annotations – active links that can be added directly into your video.
Upload an original thumbnail for your video. Note that the thumbnail is small so the best way to make it stand out is to include a short text using a large font to attract viewers’ attention.
Encourage people in your videos to subscribe to your channel. If you want to run a professional-looking channel, you need to act like a professional. Do what they do – encourage your viewers to become subscribers. This way you can almost certainly guarantee a steady growth in your viewership.
