How to Download Vimeo Videos
Unlike most social media websites, vimeo.com officially supports its subscribers’ downloading videos that have been uploaded to the site. Unfortunately, the rest of the process is not so easy: to download a movie from Vimeo, you have to sign up first and, even if you have an account on Vimeo, you cannot download a video if its owner has specified certain privacy settings. You could always try using a third-party Vimeo downloader, but keep in mind that such programs may cause problems with other applications on your computer.
Movavi has a solution that’s much better: you can save Vimeo videos to your computer simply by recording them with Movavi Screen Capture Studio, our multifunctional screen recorder. Using this handy program, you can make video tutorials, record Skype conversations with your relatives and friends, and, of course, save online videos from Vimeo.
The steps outlined below will work for both the Windows and Mac versions of Movavi Screen Capture Studio. Download the appropriate version for your OS using the appropriate link, and let’s get started!
Step 1: Install Movavi Screen Capture Studio
Run the distribution file you’ve downloaded and install the software on your computer following the onscreen instructions – you'll be ripping Vimeo streams in no time!
Step 2: Specify Capture Settings and Record Video
Start Screen Capture Studio. If you use Windows, select Capture screen in the main window. On Mac, the video grabber will open when you launch the program. Open the video you want to rip from vimeo.com and adjust the yellow capture frame so that it fits the size of the online video. You can either do this manually by pulling the edges of the frame, or by opening the Select Capture Area list and selecting an appropriate ready-made preset. If you wish to play the video full-screen, select your display from the Fullscreen section of the list.
If you wish, you can set a timer for the program to stop recording, and take a break while it’s working. Click the alarm clock icon and specify the required time before you start recording.
Once everything is ready, click the REC button, and the program will begin recording. Click the Pause and Stop buttons or use hotkeys to control the capture process. To pause and resume the recording, press F9 in Windows, or ⌥ ⌘ 1 on the Mac. To stop capturing, use F10 and ⌥ ⌘ 2 respectively.
Step 3: Edit and/or Save the Video
Before saving the video you’ve captured, you have the opportunity to edit or otherwise modify it. Click Edit to open the recording in the embedded editing program. Here, you can overlay titles, add special effects to your movie, and more.
If your video does not need to be edited, just open the Save as list and pick the format that best suits your needs. Screen Capture Studio supports popular video formats like MP4, AVI, WMV, and MKV and lets you save video in HD, so it can also be used as a Vimeo to MP4 converter. If you wish to convert Vimeo to MP3 or another audio format, for example to extract music from the video clip, Movavi Screen Capture Studio can serve as a video-to-audio converter as well – just select the audio format you want to convert the recording to.
Finally, click the Save button and wait while the program is converting your video to the selected format. After just a few minutes, the folder containing your copy of the video from Vimeo will open automatically.
