Horizon 3 Rumors Hint at 2027 Release – But Is It Too Good to Be True?

It’s been more than two years since Horizon Forbidden West launched, and fans of Guerrilla Games’ acclaimed sci-fi saga are understandably eager for more robo-dinosaur action. Enter: the Internet rumor mill.
Recently, whispers of Horizon 3 have made their rounds online, hinting at a potential 2027 release. The alleged leak comes courtesy of a user going by TCMF Games, who claimed on social media that the game is “currently in development” and may be aiming for a cross-generational release on PS5 and (presumably) PS6. It’s an enticing idea. Aloy’s final showdown? A futuristic new console? Yes, please.
But before anyone starts crafting Thunderjaw fan edits set to dramatic music, here’s the reality check: Horizon 3 hasn’t been officially announced.
The source behind the speculation
The now-viral rumor began with a post from TCMF Games, a fan-driven account with a modest track record of PlayStation leaks. According to the claim, the next mainline Horizon entry would feature Nemesis – the rogue AI teased in Forbidden West: Burning Shores – as the central antagonist. The supposed release window? Sometime in 2027.
Several gaming news sites picked up the story, including PlayStation Universe and Tech4Gamers. But as of now, there’s no confirmation from Sony or Guerrilla Games. No teaser. No logo reveal. Not even a cryptic trailer with ambient humming and tribal chants. Just speculation.
And let’s be honest – as far as leaks go, this one’s on shaky ground. TCMF isn’t an established insider. There’s no corroborating info from major reporters or datamined assets. It's basically an educated fan theory with a megaphone.
So... is it actually coming?
Despite the lack of hard evidence, it’s not unreasonable to assume Horizon 3 is somewhere in the works. Guerrilla has previously stated that a new “mainline Horizon game” is in development. However, the studio also made it clear that it’s “still far off.”
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier recently confirmed on the Spawncast podcast that Guerrilla’s next major release will be a multiplayer Horizon spin-off – not a direct sequel. That means Aloy’s third act could be several years away, if not more.
Historically, there’s been a five-year gap between games: Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017, Forbidden West in 2022. If Guerrilla sticks to that pace, 2027 seems like a reasonable – albeit optimistic – window. Just don’t expect a launch trailer next month.
A robo-filled road ahead
What is confirmed is that the Horizon universe is expanding in several directions. There’s the aforementioned online project, a Netflix adaptation in the works, and even a LEGO-themed spin-off (Horizon Adventures) aimed at younger audiences. Meanwhile, Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition dropped in 2024 for both PS5 and PC.
All of this shows Sony’s commitment to keeping the franchise alive – just not necessarily with a new single-player entry right away.
Final verdict
Is Horizon 3 coming? Almost certainly. Is it coming in 2027? Maybe. Is there an official announcement? Nope.
Right now, fans are running on a mix of hope, deduction, and one unverified social media post. Until Sony or Guerrilla Games makes a formal announcement – and knowing PlayStation, that’ll probably be during some slickly edited State of Play stream – everything is rumor, no matter how plausible.
For now, if you want more Aloy, you’ll have to settle for replaying Forbidden West, trying the LEGO version, or refreshing Reddit for the next juicy leak.
