The buzz from HBO’s The Last of Us series has fans – new and old – scrambling for controllers, and now Naughty Dog is bringing The Last of Us Part II Remastered to PC.

Indeed, the game’s aura got a major boost when the TV adaptation soared in popularity, even pushing The Last of Us: Part I sales up the charts. With Season 2 airing soon, many viewers are eager to play Ellie and Abby’s sequel story themselves. But before you dive into the post-apocalyptic adventure, let’s make sure your rig can handle it.

First, remember this is the Remastered edition (the PS5-enhanced version), so it’s more demanding than the old PS4 game. Crucially, you’ll need an SSD with ~150 GB free to install the game – a solid-state drive isn’t optional here. The game also embraces modern upscaling tech: it supports NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 3.1 and Intel XeSS (to boost frame rates via AI upscaling).

However, unlike some newer PC titles, Part II Remastered does not have built-in real-time ray tracing; so fancy reflections won’t slow you down, but you also won’t see the ray-traced shadows other games have. You will get ultrawide and HDR display support though, so a big, vibrant screen can be put to use.

Below are the CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, and OS requirements for three tiers of play: minimum, recommended, and top-tier.

Minimum requirements (720p, low settings)

  • CPU: Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 3 1300X
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Storage: 150 GB SSD (solid-state drive required)
  • OS: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit, version 1909 or higher)

This setup will let the game run at around 30 FPS. It’s entry-level for those who want to play, but don’t mind modest visuals. Note the SSD requirement – even at minimum, the game insists on an SSD (150 GB free).

Recommended requirements (1080p, medium settings)

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 5700
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Storage: 150 GB SSD
  • OS: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit, version 1909 or higher)

For a smooth 60 FPS experience at 1080p (High presets), aim for at least these specs. An Intel i5-8600 or Ryzen 5 3600 pairs with a mid-range GPU like an RTX 3060 (or Radeon RX 5700) to handle the action, along with 16 GB of RAM. Again, a fast SSD (150 GB) is mandatory to meet these recommended specs.

High-end & Ultra requirements

  • CPU (High – 1440p): Intel Core i7-9700 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • GPU (High – 1440p): NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6800
  • RAM (High): 16 GB
  • Storage (High): 150 GB SSD
  • OS (High): Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit)
  • CPU (Ultra – 4K): Intel Core i7-11700 or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
  • GPU (Ultra – 4K): NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 or AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT
  • RAM (Ultra): 32 GB
  • Storage (Ultra): 150 GB SSD
  • OS (Ultra): Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit)

These top-tier specs target the very best experience. A beefy CPU (like a Core i7-11700 or Ryzen 7 5700X) plus a high-end GPU (RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XT) will let you crank everything up to max – even tackle 4K at 60 FPS on the “Very High” preset.

Note the jump to 32 GB RAM for 4K (double what’s needed at lower settings). And again, the 150 GB SSD is unchanged – the game’s size doesn’t increase with resolution, but loading and streaming assets quickly still requires that SSD.

Each tier above assumes Windows 10/11 64-bit (build 1909 or later) and 16–32 GB of system memory. As noted, solid-state storage is a must – the game will not install on or run from a traditional hard drive. Modern frame-generation and upscaling features (NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 3.1, Intel XeSS) are supported on PC, which helps those high-end rigs push frame rates even further.

With these specs in mind, you can pick the right build for your budget and goals. In short: an SSD with 150 GB, Windows 10/11 64-bit, and at least a quad-core CPU plus a mid-range GPU for 1080p play.

Craving 4K glory? Be prepared to drop the kind of money that matches cutting-edge hardware. Either way, once you’re set up, you’ll be ready to step into The Last of Us Part II’s harrowing world on PC and experience Ellie and Abby’s story in all its remastered glory.
