Will GTA VI Ever Come to PC? Fans Aren’t Thrilled About Rockstar’s Silence

The May 2026 release date is official, but Rockstar's staggered platform strategy leaves millions of gamers wondering when they’ll get their turn.

Rockstar Games dropped a bombshell last week – Grand Theft Auto VI is officially launching on May 26, 2026, with a glitzy new trailer confirming the long-rumored date. The neon-drenched streets of the new Vice City are ready for chaos, but there’s one catch: only PlayStation 5 has been formally confirmed so far.

Cue the internet uproar.

PlayStation takes the spotlight – but not the monopoly

The trailer was captured on a PS5. There’s even a subtle product placement moment with DualSense controllers on a table. That, plus Sony’s ongoing marketing partnership with Rockstar, had some Xbox fans nervously checking their calendars.

But breathe easy, Series X|S users: while Rockstar hasn’t splashed Xbox logos across its trailers, the game will almost certainly launch on Xbox the same day. This is a tale of marketing rights, not exclusivity. Insider reports confirm that Sony paid for first dibs on the spotlight – not on the game itself.

Even Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, lists Xbox Series X|S in its financial briefings for GTA VI. So yes, Xbox is getting the game. It just won’t be front and center in the ads.

The only thing Xbox won’t be getting? Day-one Game Pass support. CEO Strauss Zelnick shot that idea down faster than Trevor Phillips in a rampage.

PC gamers, prepare to wait (again)

And then there’s the PC crowd – once again standing in the virtual rain with their GPUs in hand, waiting for Rockstar’s love.

As of now, there is no announced PC release date for GTA VI. Rockstar has kept quiet, but the silence is familiar. In fact, it’s almost tradition.

  • GTA V launched on consoles in 2013, but PC players had to wait until 2015.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2? Console in 2018, PC in 2019.
  • The original Red Dead Redemption? Still no official PC port.

When asked directly about a PC release, Zelnick gave a vague but telling response: “Rockstar has an approach to platforms we’ve seen before, and they’ll make more announcements in due time.” Translation: it’s coming… eventually. Probably in late 2026 or even 2027, if history is any guide.

On the upside, Rockstar tends to make PC ports worth the wait – packed with enhancements, mods, and all the post-launch updates baked in. But that doesn’t make the wait any easier for fans hoping to explore Leonida on ultra settings day one.

Why Rockstar rolls this way

The platform rollout for GTA VI isn’t just chaos for chaos’ sake – there’s a method behind Rockstar’s madness.

By staggering releases across platforms, the studio keeps the spotlight on GTA VI for years instead of months. First PlayStation and Xbox, then PC. Each launch is a fresh wave of hype, a new set of headlines, and another sales spike.

It’s smart business. And it works.

But it’s also mildly torturous for anyone not holding a PS5 controller.

Final countdown begins

So here’s the state of play:

  • GTA VI launches May 26, 2026, on PS5.
  • Xbox Series X|S is strongly expected to launch the same day, just without the red carpet.
  • PC release? Likely months (or a year+) later, with no official word yet.

For now, PlayStation players can start planning their Vice City crime sprees. Xbox fans can rest easy (sort of). And PC gamers? Well, maybe it’s time to revisit GTA V one more time while you wait.

Rockstar’s cards are still close to the chest. But if the past is any indication, everyone gets to play eventually – some just have to wait a little longer.
