A Blu-ray contains files that can be in one of three video formats: H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, H.262/MPEG-2 Part 2, or SMPTE VC-1. The audio formats are DTS, Dolby Digital, or Linear PCM. MPEG-4 Part 14, also known as ISO/IEC 14496-14:2003, is one instance of a more general standard (ISO/IEC 14496-12:2004) with specifications based on Apple’s QuickTime File Format. The MPEG-4 container uses AAC for encoding audio as a means to restrict data copying via lossy compression and playback. Like its many counterparts, the container supports web streaming.
