In the MPEG file type, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 codecs are used to compress the video stream, and the audio stream is usually encoded with the MP2 (MPEG-1/2 Audio Layer II) codec. This format doesn’t work with chapters but is suitable for streaming. MPEG was widely used until the beginning of the 2000s but was then almost displaced by MP4.
