How to change voice in a video

Step 1. Import your video into the video voice changer

So, here’s how to change the voice in video: first of all, install and launch Movavi Video Editor, then click Add Files and choose the video you want to work with. Your clip will appear in the Project files. From there, drag it down to the Timeline so you can start editing the sound inside the video itself.

Step 2. Open the voice editing controls

Now we’re getting to the movie voice changer. Double click the clip on the Timeline to bring up its editing settings. If you want to reshape the voice more subtly, you can adjust the Speed slider to make the audio sound faster or slower, keeping in mind that this also changes the video playback speed. You can also set Fade in and Fade out if you want the voice to enter or disappear more smoothly.

Go to Tools, open Audio, then click Audio effects and pick the sound effect you want, depending on the mood you’re after.

Step 3. Export the result

Once the voice sounds right, click Export, choose the output format such as MP4 or AVI, set the file name and save location, and finish by clicking Start.

Frequently asked questions

How can I change my voice in a video?

Sometimes I want my voice to sound different or even not human. So, I treat it like quick audio surgery. Drop the video into an app like Movavi Video Editor, open the audio settings, and start shaping the voice. Pitch controls let you go deeper or higher, speed tweaks add a slightly unnatural edge, and built-in effects can turn a normal voice into something robotic or distant. If needed, I clean it up with basic noise reduction so it does not sound rough. Then I export the file and move on.

Can you use a video of someone's voice to make a voice change?

Yeah, but there are two very different paths here. If I am just editing a video, I can easily change how a voice sounds with filters and pitch shifts. That is standard stuff. But cloning or recreating someone’s voice with AI is another story. It needs voice samples and more advanced tools, and that is where things get sensitive. Technically possible, no doubt. Ethically, it depends on permission and intent, which is where most of the real questions start.

Is there a free AI voice changer?

There are plenty of free AI voice changers for videos floating around, mostly online tools. I have tried a few and they are fine for quick experiments or memes. The catch is quality and limits. You often get fewer voice options, lower output quality, or restrictions on usage time. For casual use, they do the job. But if I need something stable and clean for actual content, I usually switch to a proper editor. Free tools are fun, just not always dependable.

Are video voice changers legal?

The tool itself is not the issue, it is how you use it. Changing your own voice for content, jokes, or creative projects is generally fine. I do that without a second thought. The line gets crossed when voice changing is used to impersonate someone, mislead people, or cause harm. Laws are starting to focus more on AI voices and deepfakes, so context matters a lot. Safe use is simple: if it is honest and harmless, you are good. If not, things can get complicated fast.
