So, what is IObit Screen Recorder? This application is a free screen-recording program that allows users to record HD videos of screen actions like gameplay, presentations, training videos, and tutorials. Along with visuals, it can also record your computer’s system sound and/or sound from an external microphone. It allows users to capture part or all of their screen, take screenshots while recording videos, and make simple edits to screen-recorded videos. It’s compatible with Windows 7-11, but IObit does not have a version out for macOS.

Overall, IObit Screen Recorder’s interface is fairly intuitive and easy to use, but new users might be thrown off at first when setting up recording parameters. Essentially, when you first launch the program, a window will open with settings to choose from. You’ll see a drop-down box where you can select a region of your screen to record (e.g., full screen, part of your screen, or a specific window). In this first window, you’ll also select your sound-recording settings, whether you want to record the cursor or not, where you’ll be saving the screen recording, and video file format settings. This is all pretty easy to navigate, but it can be a little overwhelming for users who just want to hit the record button and start their video. Once you get past the initial settings, though, the interface is user-friendly, and recording your screen is fairly straightforward.

While screen recorder by IObit is pretty quick to learn and easy to use to record your screen, it’s also a somewhat stripped-down program. It does have a few key features of note, though:

• Support for multiple video file formats. IObit Screen Recorder allows users to save their videos in multiple file formats, including AVI, MP4, FLV, TS, MOV, MKV, and GIF.

• High-definition video exports. The program supports HD video recording and exports, but it does include a watermark on free videos.

• Customizable recording area. Users can choose from multiple recording options to capture part or all of their screen – including full screen, custom partial screen, and selected window captures.

• Screenshots while recording. If you need to capture a still image, you can do this on the fly, without stopping or interrupting your video recording.

With its screen recorder, IObit has created an easy-to-use program that is popular with beginners who just want to record a video of their gameplay or other screen activity. As we mentioned earlier, the interface is easy to learn, which adds to a good user experience. However, users who want to record high-quality videos of gameplay may have a less positive experience. Users have reported that the program is inconsistent with exports of HD gameplay videos, which can be extremely frustrating, especially if you’re recording a gaming walkthrough or tutorial.

Users who download IObit Screen Recorder should consider their video-editing needs. IObit does include some video-editing features and tools. Once you’ve finished recording your video, you’ll have the option to cut, split, and trim your video clip. These basic video-editing tools make it possible to create a simple, polished video directly in the screen recorder. If you want access to more advanced tools and effects, though, you’ll need to download a third-party video-editing app.

If you plan on sharing your videos to YouTube, Facebook, or Vimeo – or if you want to store them in the cloud in Google Drive or Dropbox – the IObit free screen recorder makes it easy. There’s a bit of a trick to direct sharing from IObit, though. After you finish recording and editing your video, you’ll see it appear in a list in the IObit window. To share your video, right-click on it in this list and you’ll see sharing options. Like we said, IObit doesn’t make this very obvious, but when you know the feature’s there, it’s easy to use.

For the most part, IObit Screen Recorder performs really well on almost any Windows computer. Recordings are generally smooth, and the program is not very resource-thirsty, with typical CPU use at about 8%. Its performance level is pretty impressive, especially as it’s capable of recording up to 4K resolution. However, we have to come back to the point about gameplay recordings. For some reason, this program sometimes glitches with 4K recordings of gaming footage. If you’re recording online presentations or meetings, this probably won’t be an issue, but gamers should take note.

Video quality is top-notch with this program, with up to 4K resolution on all videos. Audio quality is good, with options to record with or without system sound, as well as microphone recordings. In general, IObit comes through with high-resolution videos and clear audio recordings.

IObit boasts that it’s created a free, high-resolution screen recorder, which is true – up to a point. The program is free to download, but users will have to pay for the IObit Screen Recorder Pro subscription to remove the watermark from their videos. You can remove the watermark and add a few more features with the pro version at $42.99 per year.

Of course, we wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t acknowledge at least one alternative screen-recording program. Movavi Screen Recorder is a great option for Mac users who can’t download IObit, but compatibility isn’t the only place that Movavi Screen Recorder stands out. Much like IObit, Movavi Screen Recorder offers a free download with watermarked video exports. Movavi Screen Recorder has an annual subscription available at $44.95 per year or $59.95 for a lifetime license. With comparable pricing to IObit, Movavi Screen Recorder includes more editing features with more consistent, high-quality video exports.
