How to Convert Video for iMovie
As you probably know, iMovie is an easy-to-use video editor for Apple devices. You don’t need any video editing expertise to use it to edit and watch the videos you upload through iTunes or your device’s camera. Unfortunately, despite being the most popular video editor for Apple devices, iMovie can be rather picky with its import formats. You’ll have no problem with importing MP4 to iMovie, but unless your videos for import are MPEG-4 (MP4), MPEG-2, AVCHD, MOV (QuickTime files), DV, or HDV (High Definition Video), you’ll need to convert them. The good news is that Movavi Video Converter can help you do this quickly and easily for more than 180 media formats and every Apple device that supports iMovie. All you need to do is download our software and follow the simple guide below, which explains the process for converting DVD to the iMovie format.
This guide is for the previous version of Movavi Video Converter. The information will be updated in the near future. You can download the latest version of the app here.
Step 1: Install the Converter
Download the iMovie converter from our website, launch the setup file, and follow the directions for installation.
Step 2: Add Your Videos
Depending on the source, click the Add Video or Add DVD button in the upper panel of the screen, select the path to your files, and pick the ones you want to convert to MP4. Our converter supports most popular formats, so if you want, for example, to import a WMV or an MKV file, neither of which are among the iMovie compatible formats, feel free to add them to our video conversion software.
Step 3: Specify the Output Format and Choose Your Device
Expand the Convert to list and open the Devices tab. Click the Apple icon. It will expand to show a list of available Apple presets. Here, you can pick one of the two ready-made presets for iMovie that best suits your needs.
Step 4: Convert Your Videos
A very convenient way to import your file into iMovie is to upload the videos to your iTunes media library directly from the converter. Just check the Add to iTunes option under the Destination line before starting the conversion.
In the Destination field, choose the folder where you’d like to save the converted files, then click the Convert button. In just seconds, the process will be completed. Now you know how to import MPG, WMV and other formats into a compatible iMovie video format quickly and with no fuss.
After your video has been converted, you can easily export it from iTunes to iMovie. You can easily transfer your videos from the iMovie interface, too – just follow the instructions. That’s all you need to know about how to import your DVD to iMovie.
