How to Capture VHS
Revive your old movie collection and family videos stored on VHS cassettes with Movavi Video Editor! Now you have a VHS-to-video converter that makes it easy. Just connect your VHS capture cable or TV tuner with VHS capturing capability to your PC — it will be automatically detected by the Capture Video application — and click Start Capture. Note that converting VHS tapes to digital video requires a significant amount of free space on your hard drive and a good amount of free time, because the conversion is done in real time.
Follow these easy steps to get started.
Step 1: Download and Install Movavi Video Editor
Click here to download Movavi Video Editor and transfer your VHS tape to video files. After the download is finished, run the .exe file and follow the Installation Wizard to install the software.
Step 2: Connect Your VHS Capture Device
To connect your VCR player to the computer, you need an adapter with an analog RCA cable at one end and a USB connector at the other.
Locate the socket panel on your VCR - the yellow socket is usually the video channel. The red and white ones are for the right and left stereo channels.
Plug the RCA inputs into the corresponding LINE IN sockets and connect the cable to the computer via USB. Wait until the system recognizes the connected capture device. Then turn on the VHS player, insert the first tape you want to convert, and start the Video Capture application from the Movavi Video Editor main window.
You can also use a TV tuner with support for VHS capture or other capture devices and connectors if your system is different from the example above.
Step 3: Set VHS Capturing Preferences
Choose your TV tuner model from the Video Capture Device drop-down list. Set the Composite video capture source and Audio Line-In audio capture source. Specify a name for the output file and select the folder in which the captured files will be stored.
Step 4: Start VHS Conversion
Launch the capture process by clicking the Start Capture button. Now start playing the video cassette in your VHS player. You can stop the capture at any time by clicking the Stop Capture button. The recording is made in real time, so you should wait until the end of the video before taking any further action.
After the capture is complete, you'll find a copy of your VHS video in the folder you specified. Now you can edit and enhance your old analog videos using Movavi Video Editor's 21st century digital technology!
Movavi Video Editor can be also used as a VHS to DVD recorder. To transfer VHS to DVD, follow the digitizing process as described above and then add the output video file, click Export and select Burn to DVD.
